DAY 1 - When You Do Not Understand

Audacious Trust
Five Days of Placing What You Cannot Control in God’s Hands

Church, most of us know how to ask God for the outcome we want. Trust begins when we can name what we want and still place the outcome in his hands.
Bring one real situation with you through these five days. Name the diagnosis, relationship, grief, decision, fear, or future that keeps tightening your hands. Do not study trust in the abstract. Let the Word of God meet you where you are actually afraid.
Read slowly. Answer honestly. Take the next faithful step.
"Trust is placing what I cannot control in God’s hands."
Pastor Daniel

DAY 1 - When You Do Not Understand
READ SLOWLY
Psalm 131 and Proverbs 3:5 through 6

Some questions do not leave quickly. You prayed. You obeyed. You tried to do what was right. The outcome still hurt, and now you want to know why. There is nothing wrong with wanting an answer. But an unanswered question can slowly become a condition we place on God. I will trust you when you explain yourself.
Psalm 131 gives us a different picture. David says he has calmed and quieted his soul like a weaned child with its mother. A nursing child comes because it wants milk. A weaned child can rest beside its mother without receiving anything in that moment. The child is safe because the mother is near.
David is not saying mature believers stop asking questions. He asks hard questions throughout the Psalms. A quieted soul is not a soul with no pain, no curiosity, and no confusion. It is a soul that has stopped making an explanation the price of staying close to God.
Proverbs 3 tells us to trust the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding. Proverbs values wisdom, so this is not a command to stop thinking. It is a warning about where we place the weight of our lives. What you lean on has to be strong enough to carry you. Your understanding is limited to what you know today, what you can see from where you stand, and what fear tells you might happen next. God sees the road beyond the bend.
Maybe you are waiting for God to explain why the relationship ended, why the opportunity closed, why the diagnosis came, or why the prayer still seems unanswered. Tell him what you want to know. Then ask a harder question. Have I decided I cannot stay close to God unless he gives me an answer?
Trust may not settle every question today. It can settle where you will rest while the question remains.
You do not have to understand every turn to know who is leading you.

ASK YOURSELF
•  What unanswered question has become a condition of my trust?
•  Where am I refusing to rest until God explains himself?
•  What do I know about God that my present confusion cannot erase?
•  What would staying close to God look like today?

YOUR NEXT STEP
Divide a page into two parts. On one side write What I know about God. On the other write What I cannot know or control. Be specific. Then open your hands and sit quietly for two minutes. You do not have to solve the second list. Let God hold it.

PRAY
Father, I want answers, and you know why. I bring you the questions that have made my soul restless. Keep me from treating my limited understanding as the final authority. Quiet my heart in your presence. Help me stay close to you before I know how the story turns out. Amen.
