Day 4: Breathe the Love of God

Day 4: Breathe the Love of God
Scripture — 1 John 4:19 NLT
“We love each other because he loved us first.”
Also read: 1 John 4:9–10, John 15:9–10, Romans 5:8
Love is the oxygen of heaven.
  • If the Christian life is lived in Jesus, then the air inside that reality is love. God is not asking you to obey while breathing shame, condemnation, fear, and pressure. He is inviting you to breathe His love and obey in the atmosphere of love.
  • But how do we breathe that love?
    • We look at Jesus before we look at our failure.
    • We look at His cross. His mercy. His patience. His resurrection. His welcome. His kindness toward sinners. His faithfulness when we are weak.
  • Love grows where attention goes.
    • If your attention is constantly on your failure, your love will shrink and your shame will grow. But if your attention keeps returning to Jesus, His love begins to reshape your heart. Not all at once. Not always dramatically. But steadily.
    • This is why remaining in Jesus’ love matters. We do not stir up love for Jesus by staring harder at our own behavior. We grow in love by seeing more clearly how deeply He has loved us first.
    • Then obedience begins to change.
    • It is no longer, “I have to do this so God will love me.”
It becomes, “I want to obey because I am already loved by Him.”
Ask Yourself
  • What receives most of my attention right now: my failure, my fear, my pressure, my resentment, or Jesus?
  • What helps me actually receive the love of Jesus instead of merely knowing about it?
Today’s Decision
Today I will intentionally give my attention to Jesus. Before I focus on what I need to fix, I will focus on His love, His cross, His mercy, and His presence.
Prayer
Jesus, help me remain in Your love. Teach me to breathe Your love before I try to change my behavior. Let my obedience grow from affection, not pressure. Amen.
