Day 5: Stop Delaying
Day 5: Stop Delaying
Scripture — James 1:22 NLT
“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.”
Today I will take one concrete step of obedience from love. My step is: ____________________________.
Prayer
God, I am sorry for the area of my life where I have been resisting You. Forgive me. Spirit, empower me to stop delaying and obey. Jesus, I love You, and because I am loved by You, I want to obey You here. Amen.
Scripture — James 1:22 NLT
“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.”
- Also read: Philippians 2:13, Psalm 139:23–24, John 14:15
- Love reveals itself through action.
- We should not say, “Jesus, I love You,” while continually refusing to live in the ways He has clearly asked us to live.
- So here is the question: Where has your love for Jesus stopped short of action?
- Maybe it is quitting something and leaving it for good. A pattern of sin you keep managing, minimizing, or renaming.
- Maybe it is forgiving someone. You know Jesus has called you to release them, but you keep waiting until they deserve it. If you are honest, that delay may have slowly become bitterness.
- Maybe it is confession. Something is hidden in the dark, and the Spirit has been prodding you to bring it into the light. Confession may feel terrifying because it could change how someone sees you, but it may be the last thing standing between you and freedom.
- Maybe it is reconciliation. Making the call. Sending the message. Owning your part. Stopping the wait for the other person to move first.
- Maybe it is generosity, sexual integrity, surrendering control, changing how you speak to your spouse or children, or finally saying yes to something God has been putting in front of you.
- Do not leave it vague.
- Name the area.
Name the next act of obedience.
Decide when obedience begins.
- But do not do the old thing: “I feel bad enough, so I’ll try harder.”
- That is sin management, and it will fail.
- Remember who you are.
- You are in Jesus.
Jesus is in you.
The Spirit lives within you.
You are hidden with Christ in God.
You are loved. - And from that place, obey.
- Where has God already made something clear, but I keep saying, “No… later”?
- Why am I delaying obedience: fear, shame, pride, comfort, bitterness, control, unbelief, or something else?
Today I will take one concrete step of obedience from love. My step is: ____________________________.
