Day 2: When Trust Has a Cost

Day 2: When Trust Has a Cost
Read: Genesis 22:3–5
Genesis 22 says, “Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey.”
That line is easy to read quickly, but it matters.
Abraham did not delay. He did not wait until obedience felt easier. He did not wait until he understood everything. He began to obey.
Most of us do not usually reject God’s requests all at once. We delay them.
God says forgive, and we say, “I need more time.”
God says confess, and we say, “I am not ready.”
God says reconcile, and we say, “They should come first.”
God says give, and we say, “After things settle down.”
God says surrender, and we say, “Maybe later.”
Sometimes we truly need wisdom, counsel, and clarity. But many times, if we are honest, we are not waiting for clarity. We are waiting for comfort.
Abraham walked for three days with the weight of surrender. Isaac walked beside him, maybe asking normal questions, maybe wondering why his father was so quiet. Abraham was obeying while his heart was breaking.
Some of us know what that feels like.
To keep walking while something inside you hurts.
To obey God while your emotions are screaming.
To say, “God, I do not understand this, but I am still moving forward.”
Then Abraham tells his servants, “We will worship and then we will come back to you.”
Not “I will come back.”
“We will come back.”
Abraham did not know how God would be faithful, but he trusted that God would be faithful.
Faith is not pretending that saying yes to God is small. Faith is saying God is faithful even when the yes is terrifying.
Reflect:
Where have you delayed obedience because you were waiting for it to feel comfortable?
Pray:
God, give me courage to obey You quickly and trust You deeply. Help me move forward even when I do not have all the answers. Amen.
