Day 4: The Lamb God Provided
Day 4: The Lamb God Provided
Read: John 1:29; John 19:17; Romans 8:32
Genesis 22 says Abraham went to the land of Moriah. Later, Scripture tells us Solomon built the temple on Mount Moriah. This place becomes connected with sacrifice, altars, priests, blood, and forgiveness.
Abraham did not know all of that.
He did not know that where Isaac carried wood up the mountain, another Son would one day carry wood up that same mountain.
Jesus.
Genesis 22 says, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love.”
John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.”
Isaac carries the wood for his sacrifice.
Jesus carries the cross.
Isaac asks, “Where is the lamb?”
John the Baptist sees Jesus and says, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
In Genesis, God stops Abraham.
At the cross, no one stops the hand.
For Abraham, God provides a ram in the place of the son.
At the cross, God provides His Son in the place of sinners.
This is the heart of Yahweh Jireh.
God did not merely provide Abraham with a ram. God provided the world with a Savior.
Jesus was not dragged unwillingly to the cross. He gave Himself. He carried the wood. He laid down His life. He became the Lamb God provided.
Romans 8:32 says God “did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all.”
The LORD provided.
He provided a way for you to come to God, no matter what you have done. Jesus died so your sin could be forgiven. Jesus gave His life so you could come home.
Reflect:
Have you received Jesus as God’s provision for your deepest need?
Pray:
Jesus, thank You for being the Lamb of God. Thank You for giving Yourself for me. Help me receive Your grace and live in the freedom You purchased. Amen.
