Day 5: Peace That Sends
Day 5: Peace That Sends
Read: John 20:21 and Judges 6:25-27
Slow Down
Peace does not end in hiding.
Gideon receives peace, and then God sends him to tear down idols. The disciples receive peace, and then Jesus says, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”
God’s peace comforts, but it also calls. It settles us, but it does not let us stay stuck. It meets us in the winepress, then leads us out. It enters the locked room, then sends us into the world.
Many of us quietly believe peace means we can pause our lives until everything feels resolved.
When I feel better, then I will obey. When life is calmer, then I will serve. When I am less afraid, then I will have the conversation. When my questions are gone, then I will follow.
But what if God gives peace before resolution so we can live with purpose in the middle of what is still unresolved?
Peace is not God’s permission to hide until everything is easy. Peace is God’s power to obey while life is still complicated.
That does not mean your pain is fake. It means your pain is not your purpose. That does not mean anxiety is small. It means anxiety does not get to control your obedience. That does not mean grief disappears. It means grief does not get the final word.
Fear shrinks life down to one question: How do I protect myself?
But when Yahweh Shalom speaks, a better question begins to rise: God, what are You sending me to do?
Maybe the next step is walking across the street to talk with a neighbor, serving at The Orchard, joining a group, opening your home, forgiving someone, giving generously, being baptized, having the conversation, or simply saying yes to the next faithful thing.
Peace is not escape from purpose. Peace is strength for purpose.
Reflect
• Where have you been waiting for everything to be resolved before you obey?
• What is one step of purpose God may be placing in front of you?
• Where are you calling something peace, but it may actually be comfort or avoidance?
Pray
Yahweh Shalom, thank You for meeting me in fear. Now give me courage to follow You in faith. Do not let me hide behind comfort. Send me with Your peace into the next step of obedience. Amen.
