Day 3: The Banner That Disciples Me
Day 3: The Banner That Disciples Me
SCRIPTURE READING: Matthew 6:21
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
DEVOTIONAL REFLECTION
The scary thing is not just that we have banners.
The scary thing is that our banners begin to disciple us.
Whatever we rally around will eventually shape our loves.
Whatever we look to for identity will eventually define our worth.
Whatever we trust to save us will eventually demand our life.
That is why Jesus speaks so directly about treasure.
Money is never just money.
Treasure reveals trust.
Treasure reveals worship.
Treasure reveals what we believe will keep us safe, make us happy, and secure our future.
This is why giving is discipleship.
Giving is not merely how a church pays bills.
Giving is one of the ways Jesus trains our hearts to trust Him.
Giving says, “My money is not my savior.”
Giving says, “My security is not ultimately in what I can keep.”
Giving says, “God is the owner, and I am a steward.”
A simple line can help us remember this.
It is all God’s anyway.
That is not a pressure line.
That is a freedom line.
My paycheck is His.
My house is His.
My future is His.
My time is His.
My energy is His.
My life is His.
If Jesus is my banner, then He is not only over my beliefs.
He is over my bank account, my calendar, my habits, my gifts, my words, my body, and my future.
This is not about earning God’s love.
This is what happens because we have received God’s love.
Spiritual growth does not happen only when we learn more.
It happens when more of our actual life comes under the lordship of Jesus.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
• What does my spending reveal about what I trust?
• Where am I holding tightly because I am afraid God will not provide?
• Do I see giving as pressure, or as formation?
• Where is Jesus inviting me to say, “It is all God’s anyway”?
• What ordinary part of my life needs to come under His banner today?
PRAYER
Jesus, You have been generous to me before I ever gave anything to You. Teach me to trust You with my money, my time, my gifts, and my future. Free me from the fear of scarcity. Form my heart through generosity. It is all Yours anyway. Amen.
TODAY’S PRACTICE
Take five quiet minutes and look at one area of your life: money, time, words, or service. Ask, “Does this area show that Jesus is my banner?” Then choose one concrete act of surrender.
