Day 1 — When God Doesn’t Meet Expectations

Day 1 — When God Doesn’t Meet Expectations

Bible
Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Devotional
Palm Sunday reveals something uncomfortable.
People didn’t reject Jesus because they hated Him.
They rejected Him because He didn’t meet their expectations.
They wanted a King to fix their lives.
Jesus came to save their souls.
And if we’re honest, we do the same thing.
We expect God to fix problems, protect comfort, and make life smoother.
And when He doesn’t, something shifts.
Not always belief, but trust.
But what if the issue isn’t that God failed you, but that your expectations were too small?
What if He is doing something deeper than what you asked for?

Reflection
Where have you thought, “I thought God would…”?
What expectation are you holding that may not align with who He really is?

Prayer
God, I trust You, but I see where I’ve expected You to work on my terms.
Help me release my expectations and trust Your ways, even when I don’t understand.
Teach me to follow You, not reshape You.

Action
When something doesn’t go your way today, pause and say,
“God, I trust Your way more than my expectation.”
