Day 2 — What Does God's Face Look Like?
Day 2 — What Does God’s Face Look Like?
Read: Luke 15:20; Romans 5:8
While the son was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, threw his arms around him, and kissed him. Romans says that God demonstrates His love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
One of the deepest questions in the Christian life is this: What do you believe God’s face looks like when He thinks of you? A lot of believers live as if God’s default posture is crossed arms, disappointment, and quiet frustration. We know the gospel in our heads, but our hearts still brace for rejection.
Jesus destroys that lie in Luke 15. The Father sees the son before the son can clean himself up. He moves toward him before the son can finish the speech. He embraces him while he still smells like the far country. That means God’s love is not cold, reluctant, or delayed. In Christ, God is not backing away from repentant people. He is moving toward them.
The cross confirms the same truth. Jesus did not die for the cleaned-up version of you. He died for you while you were still sinful, needy, and unable to save yourself.
Reflect:
Father, reshape my view of You. Tear down the lies I believe about Your heart. Teach me to see Your compassion clearly through Jesus. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Reflect:
- When I fail, what do I instinctively think God feels toward me?
- Which is easier for me to believe: that God forgives me, or that He welcomes me?
- What would change in my walk with God if I really believed His face toward me is full of compassion?
Father, reshape my view of You. Tear down the lies I believe about Your heart. Teach me to see Your compassion clearly through Jesus. In Jesus’ name, amen.
