Day 1: Beneath the Tired

Day 1: The Tired Beneath the Tired
Read: Matthew 11:28
Jesus does not begin with an accusation. He begins with an invitation.
That matters because when we are tired, we often assume God is disappointed in us. We think His first word will be, “Try harder. Do better. Get yourself together.”
  • But that is not how Jesus speaks in Matthew 11.
  • He says, “Come to me.”
There is a kind of tired sleep can fix. There is a kind of tired a day off can help. There is a kind of tired that comes from staying up too late, working too hard, or carrying too many responsibilities.
But there is another kind of tired.
  • Soul tired.
Soul tired is when you can sleep and still wake up heavy. It is when you can smile at people but still feel worn down underneath. It is when you keep showing up, keep doing the job, keep caring for everyone else, but quietly know something inside of you is running low.
  • Jesus sees that kind of tired.
He is not confused by it. He is not annoyed by it. He is not standing far away saying, “Why are you not stronger?”
  • He invites you.
  • Come to me.
Today, do not bring Jesus the fake version of yourself. Bring Him the tired version. The honest version. The version that needs help.
That is the version He invited.

Ask yourself:
Where am I most tired right now, physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually?
What have I been trying to carry without admitting how heavy it is?
Do I believe Jesus is inviting me, or do I assume He is disappointed in me?

Prayer:
Jesus, I come to You today. I am tired in places I do not always know how to explain. Help me stop pretending I am fine when I am not. Teach me to bring You the real version of myself. Give rest to my soul. Amen.

Today’s step:
Take two quiet minutes today and simply pray, “Jesus, I come to You with my weariness.”
