Day 4: Gentle & Humble
Day 4: Gentle and Humble
Read: Hebrews 4:15 to 16
Some people avoid Jesus because they think He is harsh.
They believe He is powerful, but they do not believe He is gentle. They believe He sees everything, but they assume He sees everything with disgust. They believe He can judge, but they struggle to believe He can welcome.
But when Jesus describes His own heart toward weary people, He says He is gentle and humble.
That is stunning.
Jesus has all power, but He is gentle.
Jesus has all authority, but He is humble.
He is powerful enough to carry you and gentle enough to hold you.
Gentleness is not weakness. Gentleness is strength under control. Jesus does not mishandle weary people. He does not break people who are already bruised. He does not crush people who are barely holding on.
That means you do not have to approach Him pretending to be stronger than you are.
You can come boldly because He is gracious.
For some of us, this is the healing word: Jesus is not like the harsh religious voices you may have known. Jesus is not the shame you were handed. Jesus is not the performance treadmill.
His heart is gentle and humble.
Ask yourself:
Do I picture Jesus as gentle toward me?
Where did I learn to think God was harsh?
What would change if I really believed Jesus was powerful enough to carry me and gentle enough to hold me?
Prayer:
Jesus, help me believe what You say about Your own heart. You are gentle and humble. Heal the false pictures I have carried of You. Teach me to come boldly, honestly, and without fear. Amen.
Today’s step:
When you feel shame today, pause and say, “Jesus is gentle and humble in heart.”
