Day 5: Jesus Is Yahweh Come Near

The question is not only, “Did Yahweh come near to Moses?” The bigger question is this: How near is Yahweh willing to come to us?
The answer is Jesus.
Jesus said, “Before Abraham was born, I am!” He was not just claiming to be a teacher. He was not just claiming to be a prophet. He was not just giving people good moral advice. Jesus was identifying Himself with the great I AM.
In Exodus, Yahweh says, “I have come down to rescue.” In Jesus, Yahweh comes all the way down.
The God who spoke from the fire stepped into flesh. The God who gave breath to humanity entered the world as a baby and took His first human breath. And on the cross, Jesus gave up His breath to rescue us from sin and death.
So if you want to know what Yahweh is like, look at Jesus. Jesus is Yahweh come near. Jesus is Yahweh saving. Jesus is Yahweh with scars in His hands saying, “Come to me.”
That means your next step is not just to know more about God’s name. Your next step is to respond to the God who has come near.
