Day 2: Empty Nets

Day 2: Empty Nets
Scripture

John 21:3
"But that night they caught nothing."
Reflection
Peter returned to fishing, but the fishing wasn't working.
Sometimes God allows our nets to come up empty because He wants to remind us that our deepest needs can't be met apart from Him.
The disciples spent an entire night doing what they were experts at. They had experience. They had knowledge. They had effort.
Still, they caught nothing.
Many of us know what it's like to work harder, try again, and keep grinding only to discover that something is still missing.
Empty nets can become holy moments if they lead us back to Jesus.
Questions
  • Where have I been striving without seeing fruit?
  • What "empty net" in my life might God be using to get my attention?
  • Am I willing to bring my disappointment to Jesus?
Prayer
Lord, help me trust You even when my efforts seem unproductive. Use my empty nets to draw me closer to You. Amen.
